Clifford Fields public hearing was opened with the pledge to the flag at 7 pm. Parmalee reported the special assessment of $36.50 per lot for street lighting was not sufficient to pay the Consumer’s Energy bills for the year. The assessment raised $2,774 and the cost was $3,377.31. There were no public comments. S. Michalek moved, second by S. Hammond to raise the assessed amount from $36.50 to $45 per lot per year which will raise $3,420.00 and it will take effect with this year’s winter taxes. Roll call, ayes: Grinnell, Hammond, P. Michalek, S. Michalek, & Parmalee. Carried
The public hearing was closed at 7:04 pm. And the regular meeting was called to order.
Parmalee moved, second by S. Michalek to approve the agenda. Carried
Parmalee moved, second by Hammond to approve the Mar. 2nd minutes with correction of Morrice’s ambulance special assessment election be changed to a millage election. Carried.
The members from the Lion’s club introduced themselves and explained what their club does for the community. They have been in existence for 2 years and raise money to give back to the community. They are the world’s largest service organization and they are looking for new members.
B. Dickerson asked if the township would donate to the fireworks for the Village festival this year. S. Michalek moved, second by P. Michalek to donate $2,000 for the 4th of July fireworks again this year. Roll Call: ayes, Hammond, P. Michalek, S. Michalek, Parmalee, & Grinnell. Carried
SSESA reported 14 runs in the township making a total of 41 for the year.
Sheriff’s Dept. had 171 calls in the township of which 67 were traffic stops.
Correspondence: Morrice Senior Center open house. Magnet donation, tabled.
Hammond moved, second by P. Michalek to approve the financial statement & pay the bills. Roll call: ayes, Hammond, P. Michalek, S. Michalek, Parmalee, and Grinnell. Carried
Supervisor reported that Antrim Twp. will join the township in gravel for Cork Rd. The bridge on south M-52 is being repaired and paid for by the State. April 19th is a meting at the road commission to discuss seal coating. The property owner will pay for culverts for the Beardslee Rd. project and the township will bill for them.
Parmalee moved, second by S. Michalek to approve a 3-yr. contract with Demis & Wenzlick for $4,000 per year to do the yearly audit. Roll call: ayes, P. Michalek, S. Michalek, Parmalee, Grinnell, & Hammond. Carried
Hammond reported the recycling committee is considering another bin for cardboard but will have to check with the Village. Recycling program is going very well.
Sewer rates for the 16 residential equivalent units through the Industrial Park were discussed. We need to update our usage chart. Attorney Smith will check with his associate who is working on a similar case.
Work is being done on a culvert on Lovejoy & Beardslee Rd. for the Spaulding Drain.
Parmalee moved, second by S. Michalek to reappoint Joe Ocenasek & Larry Place to the Planning Commission for a 3-year term. Roll call: ayes, S. Michalek, Parmalee, Grinnell, Hammond, P. Michalek. Carried
S. Michalek passed out cemetery foundation information regarding raising the rates for foundations. This will be discussed next month.
Parmalee presented the budget amendments for the 2010-2011 year and moved, second by Grinnell that they be approved. Roll call: ayes, Parmalee, Grinnell, Hammond, P. Michalek, S. Michalek. Carried
